Definition of Communication:

Communication is taking knowledge of human behavior, both conscious and unconscious, and interests to influence personal, professional, and critical situations. It can also be used to tell the stories of others in both present and past, fictional and nonfictional, and even tell those stories through different channels and mediums, from a local to global scale.

Value of an "Umbrella" Department:

An umbrella department is beneficial because it encourages students to expand their experience in communication, without making it seem like nothing more than extra hours. For example, while my emphasis was theatre, I now have knowledge on multimedia production, journalism, and more strategic forms of communication.

Value to Society:

Communication is a value to society, as everyone communicates, both consciously and unconsciously, and having knowledge of how to most effectively communicate. My knowledge will help me advance my career through better, more efficient client interactions, broadens my opportunities due to the range of classes I have taken and increase confidence in networking.

Positive Representation:

I feel that I am a positive representative of the  department of communication because I am always looking into the best ways to communicate and am constantly working towards being better at communicating everyday.
